Warangal, Telangana (D-Tour : Lankavaram Lake)

A weekend trip to Warangal, City rules by Yadava during 18th century AD (called Orukal), later ruled by Kakatiyas for two hundren years followed by Sultanate of Delhi in 1323 onwards(called Sultanpur).Later in 1725, it came to Asifjahi(called Warangal).

We started around 7am from Miyapur, Hyderabad. We took the route through Miyapur X Road, Bachupally Rd/ Bolaram Rd to merge into ORR in Kandlakoi from NH44 and followed NH163. We followed the route Ghatkeshwar > Bibinager> Bhuvanagiri> Wangapalli > Aler> Pembarti > Jangaon > Ghanpur> Pindial> Kazipet > Hanamkonda> Warangal.

On the way, you can visit Bhongir Fort.It was built in the 10th century on an isolated monolithic rock by the Western Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI and was thus named after him as Tribhuvanagiri.Later it got associated with the rule of queen Rudramadevi and her grandson Prataparudra II

After that we stops at Yadagirigutta for breakfast. There two hotels are good: Sankalp and Vivera on other side. We went to Vivera. Sambhar is a must eat.

After that we took a D-Tour to Kalanpak to visit Jain Temple. At a distance of 83 km from Warangal and 81 km from Hyderabad, the 2000 years old Jain Temple of Mahavira is located in Kolanupaka village (also called as Kulpak) in Nalgonda district. It’s architecture is marvelous.

Then we started our final journey to Hanamkonda. After we reached, first thing we did, visited Thousand Pillars Temple. The Thousand Pillar Temple was believed to be constructed during the period between 1175–1324 CE by order of the king, Rudra Deva.It was a masterpiece of stone carving and architecture. The culture of Warangal is mainly recognised for fine arts and literature.Today, Warangal district comprises of Warangal, Kazipet and Hanamkonda.Major tourist atrractions are Thousand pillars temple, Warangal Fort, Kush Mahal, Bhadrakali Temple near Bhdrakali lake, Kakatiya Musical garden, etc.

Then we had our lunch at Kadai Retaurant. Really enjoyed the food especially that day special, Keva Kastha Chicken (Dry). Then after discussion whether to go to hotel or to next destination of warangal fort, we started for Warangal Fort. First we visited Kush Mahal and then we went to warangal fort.During the journey, all entried were fre due to 500 and 1000 demoniterization but events and shows are also not available. Even they didn’t turn on the lights at warangal fort in the evening. But we managed to saw quickly till sunlight lasted.

After that we went to one Children Park back side of the fort. It’s ok type. Finally we decided to head for Hotel ratna we booked through online. In the hotel only we order some food.

Next day morning, we decided to head towards Lankavaram Lake, 80kms from Warangal, discovered and built during 13th century by Kakatiya Rulers. It was really good. But I believe this Haritha Chain lost their charm. Even after reaching there by 10:30am, they refused to serve breakfast to us. Since we have children, we quickly went for a boat ride and started back to so that on the way we could have some breakfast.

Finally we came back to Warangal around 1:30pm and then decided to take lunch. After lunch, we just roam around and started our back journey for Hyderabad. On the way we again stopped by Vivera Hotel had some snacks and coffee and finally reached home (Miyapur) around 8pm.

It was really nice, short and economical journey. Including all, I spent around 6000 INR.
